When does the Lumen Prize call for entries open?

March 15, 2018.

Who’s eligible to enter?

Any artist, anywhere.

What does it cost?

It’s US$47.50 for two works and US$23.75 for each additional work. A not-for-profit organisation, Lumen receives no outside funding. All entry fees go directly towards the prizes and our global events. The Meural Student Award is free to enter. For more details, click here.

What can I win?

This year’s prize fund is $11,000. The categories are Still, Moving Image, AR/VR, 3D/Interactive, the BCS Artificial Intelligence and the Meural Student Award. All finalists are eligible for three further awards: the People’s Choice award, the Founder’s award and the Gold award. The prize amounts and more details are here.

What kind of art is eligible?

All art is eligible as long as it engages with technology in some form. If you have any questions regarding whether your work suits the Lumen Prize, please email jack@lumenprize.com.

Do I have to choose a category to enter?

Yes. If you are unsure what category to enter, please email us. We don’t recommend entering the same work in different categories.

What kind of equipment can artists use?

Artists can use any equipment, there is no limit. If your work is site-specific, please provide video documentation.

How does the judging work?

All works are reviewed by our international selection committee, made up of art and technology specialists, including curators, writers and academics. This group selects the Lumen longlist, which opens for a public vote for the People’s Choice award in August. If you are selected for the longlist, we will email you in late July.

Who judges the top prizes?

The longlist will then be reviewed by an eminent international jury panel which will select the finalists and top prize winners. The full list of our panel can be found here. The finalists will be announced in late August and the winners will be announced at the 2018 Lumen awards ceremony on September 27 at the Frontline Club in London.

Any other opportunities for finalists and winners?

Yes. Lumen runs an active events schedule of its own exhibitions as well as partnering with festivals and venues globally. These events exclusively feature Lumen artists from current and past competitions. Our first event for 2018 artists will be an exhibition at Brighton Digital Festival in September 2018. Keep an eye on our Events page as well as our Twitter and Instagram feeds for updates.

I’m psyched. When does the call for entries close?

June 1, 2018.
